Give what you no longer need. Turn it into good.
Thrift Good takes goods people no longer need, gives them the most useful second life available, and turns the value into funding for charitable work.
The category’s default is a loading dock and a receipt. You hand over bags, and that is the last you hear. We think the interesting part is everything after that — and most of the value in this business is decided there, item by item, in choices donors never see.
So we built the system first: what we can accept and why, whether a truck can reach you, where each item does the most good, and what actually reached the work once the costs of collecting and selling it are counted.
Where we are today
Setting up. The platform is built and running. What it does not yet have is a warehouse, a truck, a store or a first collection — which is why the drop-off finder is empty and the impact page has no numbers on it. Both will change, and neither will be filled with estimates in the meantime.
How we relate to UMMA Foundation
Thrift Good is being built as a social enterprise within the UMMA Foundation family. The formal legal and fiscal relationship is still being settled, and until it is we make no claim about tax status anywhere on this site. When it is settled, this page and our donation and receipt policy will say precisely what it means for you.
What we will not do
- Publish an impact figure we cannot trace back to our own records.
- Put a dollar value on what you donated. That is yours to determine.
- Take goods we cannot handle safely in order to look generous.
- Guilt anyone into giving, or make people feel bad about the condition of their things.
- List anything valuable, luxury or collectible without a person having looked at it.
